There is no spoon !

Posted on: January 8, 2010

Agent Smith to Morpheus :
I’d like to share a revelation that I’ve had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you’re not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You’re a plague and we are the cure.

How true it is. We humans actually do the same thing as told by Agent Smith in MATRIX . We occupy one area,We multiply, multiply, We consume all the natural resources of that area, after everything is over, we move to another area and repeat the same thing, again and again.
We humans never maintain the “natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment”, We destroy the surrounding environments we live in.

Matrix is one of my all time favorite movie, even today I watch this movie with same interest and curiosity as a watched it when I saw it first time :).

So what is matrix ~ Matrix is the computer generated world created by the machines for humans.
Matrix is the system developed by the machines to simulate the reality of the real world. It is perfect system developed by the machines.

Matrix is every where, as Morpheus tells Neo :
The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us, even now in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, when you go to church, when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

Yes truth, what is the truth ?

The explanation given by Morpheus to Neo : The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you’re inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to
understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.

Yes very true, many of us not ready to be unplugged, going back in history, you know what happened when Galileo Galilei told the world that “sun doesn’t revolve around earth, earth revolve around sun”. They never agreed with him, may be, because they were not ready to be unplugged, may be they don’t wanted to see the truth, may be they are happy with what they have, may be they hated reality.

Some people are addicted to the virtual reality,
like Cypher say in matrix : I know this steak doesn’t exist. I know that when I put it in my mouth, the Matrix is telling my brain that it is juicy and delicious. After nine years, you know what I realize? Ignorance is bliss.

So what is the truth, do we really ready to be unplugged ? Do we ready to accept the truth, or we happy with whatever we know ?
Remember what spoon boy tells Neo, when Neo tries to bend the spoon,
Spoon boy : Do not try and bend the spoon. That’s impossible. Instead… only try to realize the truth.
then neo asks the spoon boy ” what truth ?”
spoon boy : There is no spoon. Then you’ll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.

yes very true, It’s not the world which changes,it’s you !.

you have to change yourself, you cannot change the world, but you can change yourself.
We all know, that something is wrong with this world, that’s why we see wars, people killing each other for fame, money.

We all know, like Morpheus tell Neo : I know exactly what you mean. Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I’m talking about?

Have you ever thought out of the box? Are we in control of our mind, or are we inside the prison of our mind ?
What if the world we are living is not real ? What if ?

Like Morpheus says to Neo : Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?

Have you ever thought that the world you love so much is really a real world ?
Do you ever thought, Why you are here ?
Do you ever had thought about the existence of humanity ?
Why we exists ?
What is the reason behind our existence ?

Like in matrix : The reason behind the existence of matrix is humans blocked the light of sun with smoke, so machines wanted some alternate way of energy, so they developed the MATRIX, plugging the human mind into matrix, using the heat generated by the body as there new energy source.

So What is the reason behind our existence ?

This is the question, humankind trying to find the answer from the beginning. Still no success.
I just hope, In coming years we will get some solid answers, instead of guesses.
I hope..
As The Architect tell Neo : Hope, it is the quintessential human delusion, simultaneously the source of your greatest strength, and your greatest weakness.

Something on…Agent Smith saying that Humans are not mammals because they do not maintain equilibrium …

Human beings do not have a natural predator to control the population. This has happened in limited regions with other mammal. For example, on rat island, rats grew in large numbers because they did not have a natural predator.

i liked your article.. interpreting Matrix to question about life and existence..
But i kind of like Matrix as a action movie and not a philosophy. Matrix philosophy looks quite immature compared to ancient Indian philosophy of life.

thanks for the comment..
You are right about the predators, and also it is immature indeed compare to Indian philosophy.
But I liked the concept of movie, explanation it gives about the Maaya jaal, Karma and Mukasha. 🙂

Thanks for a very good collection of selected matrix quotes!! The philosophies explained in matrix are really awesome.. But, it is pity to say that many of my friends are only interested in its action scenes!!

yes.. you are right, even my friends are interested in action scenes, at that time it was one of the best action movie, but I must say I liked the philosophy explained by matrix 🙂 more than actions.

[…] Sayed – When I started writing my blog in 2009, I posted my blog link into company’s internal reading portal and from there, I got one more avid book reader – Sayed Khadri. Though we were in same company and in same location, we never met personally but our friendship has been grown by books. I think, He is the first book blogger I have started following. We both love different genre but I always loved his choice of book and his review. sometimes apart from book review, he writes something “out of the box”  and  one of those (and my most favorite post ever from all bloggers) is “There is no spoon!“. […]

Thanks a lot Ujval 🙂
