—————————————————————————————————————————  Mr Jones of Manor Farm is so lazy and drunken that one day he forgets to feed his livestock’s. The ensuing rebellion under the leadership of the pigs Napoleon and Snowball leads to the animals taking over the farm. Vowing to eliminate the terrible inequities of farmyard, the renamed Animal Farm is organized to benefit all who walks on four legs (four legs good, two legs bad). But as time passes, the ideals of the rebellion are corrupted, then forgotten. And something new and unexpected emerges……

Animal Farm – the history of a revolution that went wrong – is George Orwell’s brilliant satire on the corrupting influence of the power.

In this brilliant book ‘Animal Farm’ George Orwell’s shows the darker face the modern history. Animal Farm was published in England on 17th August 1945 and in 1995 it received the W. H. Smith and Penguin Books Great read of the Century award. This novel together with his 1984 (Nineteen eighty four) brought Orwell worldwide fame.

It is amazing that such a short story can be as significant and important in the history of the literature. You don’t have to be expert in politics and history to identify the symbols and myths in the book.  Initially the book was described as fairy tale, hiding its true connection with the Russian history.

I really enjoyed animal farm and it made me think about the life we live in today’s world. Many of the events described in the book can be traced back to the real world events. Orwell very cleverly described corrupting influence of the power. When you compare the events in the book with the world we live in today, I am sure you will find many links.Orwell investigates the evil of power, money, luxury and fear to bring us the tale of hunger and dictatorship.

Here Orwell shows, how a dictator (in this the book’ A PIG’) controls the media (by spreading the false information), how he creates the fear by forced confessions and public executions and puts his failures and internal problems on the back of foreign agents, how he rewrites history.

This second book I read of George Orwell, first one I read is 1984 and Animal Farm is second. What I came to know after completing the second book, George Orwell was a keen observer of the human nature.  This is the only book I read twice back to back in one sitting and you can read it as many times as you want because it is very small (93 Pages) and every time you read it, you will discover something new.

Orwell here describes very neatly – that how the Pigs used Animalism as an illusion to satisfy their greed and lust of power. How they change the law ‘ALL ANIMAL ARE EQUAL to ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL but SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS’.How the lust for power and greed can result in murders and brutality.

Over all a brilliant and a must read book. Go grab your copy and start reading it, if you haven’t read it yet.

I read 1984 before I read Animal Farm and I totally loved it, and then this book was like the icing on the cake!! I loved Orwell’s satirical symbolism and I was kind of in the stage where I was really fascinated by the Russian Revolution, so that made the book much much better!! Great review!
