This is the first book of Suzanne Collins I read. The Hunger Games is the first book in the trilogy, the other two books are “Catching The Fire” and “Mockingjay”. The Hunger Games is so brilliantly narrated that, I was unable to put it down for a minuter after few starting pages.

Suzanne Collins brilliantly shown the dark side of humanity, how brutal can human become once he gets the power. Her narrative is excellent in the life-or-death plotline, is incredibly compelling. The story line is entertaining as well as brutal and chilling. The Book is very well organised, very well written. The Book has violence, but not so much as to be distracting.

The character development is excellent, specially the characters surrounding the Katniss Everdeen. The view of hunger game world is very neatly described, well told. The story is narrated by Katniss Everdeen. Suzanne Collins expressed emotions, helplessness of victims (tributes) families, who are unable to do anything to save their childs.

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

The Hunger Games is set in the very far future where after the war, the things have gone out of control. The world after the war is ruled by rich people who live in luxury, in the city named Capitol. The Capitol Rules thirteen districts (actually 12 districts, 13th district is destroyed by Capitol for rising voice against them). The Capitol has very advanced military, great scientist and everything which can prevent the rebellion again. The life in these districts real sucks, all the district have been assigned a specific task by Capitol. For ex : 12th district – Mining, 11th – Agriculture etc.

To make things even worse for the people of Panem, The Capitol introduces the Hunger Games as the reminder of the rebellion of 13th district, so that they should not do the same again. and to show the people of Panem that how helpless they are. The Rules of Hunger Games are simply, every year one girl and one boy is picked up from each district and put to fight in Arena, which will broadcasted live on TV. There is only one Rule in Hunger Games – STAY ALIVE.

Over all very well plotted, well narrated and great read.
