“One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them”.

The Lord Of The Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring is first part in epic fantasy trilogy (which was actually not an trilogy) written by J.R.R Tolkien.

One word is enough to describe the writing of Mr. Tolkien – Excellence. Amazing story teller was he and mastered the art of telling the story in way that you will forget all the world around you and start living inside Middle-Earth.

Set in a Tolkien’s world of Middle Earth – story starts with Shire where lives  Frodo Baggins who inherits the One Ring from Bilbo Baggins [how Bilbo came in possession of the One Ring? read the review of The Hobbit here], his cousin and guardian. Neither is aware of its origin and nature, but Gandalf the Grey, a wizard and old friend of Bilbo, suspects the Ring’s identity. When he becomes certain, he strongly advises Frodo to take it away from the Shire. And thus begins the journey of Frodo with his three hobbit friend Samwise (“Sam”) Gamgee, and two cousins, Meriadoc (“Merry”) Brandybuck and Peregrin (“Pippin”) Took and indeed a unforgettable journey.

Thus they travel to Rivendell to meet Elrond and there they form “Fellowship of the ring” with four hobbits and Gandalf, Gimli the Dwarf, Legolas the Elf, and the Man Boromir, son of the Ruling Steward Denethor of the realm of Gondor. And thus they start their journey towards Mount Doom and they encounter many strange yet very dangerous creatures of middle earth long forgotten but coming to life again to aid Sauron – who raised again to destroy middle earth.

Tolkien has introduced many races in this book like Orcs, Elves, Hobbits, Dwarves, Wizards and evil ones such as Sauron, Nazgul,Balrog. Tolkien has very kept very well the feel and dialogues of each race different – you can almost say by the way they speak whether he is a Hobbit or Dwarves or an Elf, that’s the beauty of his writing.

The story is mainly narrated in this book from the perspective of Hobbit’s mainly from the perspective of Frodo Baggins.

In ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. After many ages it fell into the hands of Bilbo Baggins, as told in The Hobbit. In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose.

I recommend this book to everyone even though you have seen the movie, go ahead and read it and I am sure you will definitely fall in love with this book.
