“The Lord of the Rings” is a pinnacle of all fantasy novels, no doubt about that and reviewing this book is not an easy task because there is always a risk that you won’t do proper justice to this awesome book with your review.

The Two Towers picks from exactly where the ‘The Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring‘ ended. The Fellowship has broken and all members of fellowship are scattered. Meriadoc (“Merry”) Brandybuck and Peregrin (“Pippin”) Took have been taken by Orcs mistaking them for Ring bearer(s). Frodo with hobbit friend Samwise (“Sam”) Gamgee are left with the burden of the ring and they start their journey toward mountain doom to destroy the ring once and for all. But destroying the ring is not an easy task, Sauron is gaining the power and Saruman is also preparing his army invade Gondor and he(Saruman) also wants to take ring for himself.

Frodo and the Companions of the Ring have been beset by danger during their quest to prevent the Ruling Ring from falling into the hands of the Dark Lord by destroying it in the Cracks of Doom. They have lost the wizard, Gandalf, in the battle with an evil spirit in the Mines of Moria; and at the Falls of Rauros, Boromir, seduced by the power of the Ring, tried to seize it by force. While Frodo and Sam made their escape the rest of the company were attacked by Orcs.

Now they continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin – alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go.

The happy and always smiling Frodo is almost unrecognizable in these books, the burden of the ring brings in him so much changes that by the end of book three he is just a reflection of his former self. The ring start doing with him the things which it already did with Golum and he starts to do the thing which you would never have thought him doing. Over the time period he become more and more attached to the ring and start doubting about his best friend Samwise and even threatening him to kill. The more he resists the power of ring, the more falls into it’s grasp. Will he destroy it, will he give it up?

Gandalf: ‘All our hopes now lie with two little hobbits, somewhere in the wilderness.’

Samwise(who is the true friend of Frodo) will become a true pillar of strength to his friend. In this book he will kill Orcs with sting, he will tame the Golum who tries to take the ring from Frodo and even physically carries Frodo through Mordor. Whereas Merry and Pipin also plays a major role in the coming war against Sauran and Saruman with the help of long forgotten Ent’s.

Gandalf: ‘I will help you bear this burden, as long as It is yours to bear. But we must do something, soon. The Enemy is moving’

Gandalf has totally changed in these books from Gandalf the grey to Gandalf the white and now he leads the council of wise and removes Saruman from the council after the war of two towers. Aragon – becomes the king in ‘The Return Of The King’ from ranger and leads army of both living and dead without a flinch to victory. Legolas and Gimli become legendary friends which no one ever thought they will.

But this is not the end of war for Hobbit’s because when they return to Shire – there they have to fight one more battle, the last battle to free Shire from the grips of dangerous enemy.

At the end of the book ‘The Return Of King’ you will find a huge appendix in which author has penned down the history of Middle-Earth along with kings and rulers.

Gandalf: “I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil.”

It’s very difficult, once you complete the books, to accept the fact the you have to say goodbye to Middle-Earth and its enchanting inhabitants.
